Grilled Corn + Steak Tacos
These grilled corn and steak tacos are a delicious combination of smoky, savoury flavours and fertility supportive nutrients. Tender top sirloin is grilled alongside sweet corn, then tucked into warm corn tortillas and topped with creamy avocado, red onion, fresh lime, and a little hot sauce. It’s a simple, satisfying meal that brings together protein, healthy fats, fibre, vitamins, and minerals in one colourful dish.
The steak is doing more than just bringing protein to the plate. Top sirloin is a great source of zinc, iron, and vitamin B12, all important nutrients for reproductive health. Zinc plays a role in hormone production and reproductive function, while iron is essential for healthy red blood cell production and becomes particularly important for women who lose iron during their menstrual cycle. Vitamin B12 also supports healthy cell production and energy metabolism.
Then there’s the avocado, which brings healthy monounsaturated fats and folate to the meal. Folate is especially important when preparing for pregnancy because it supports healthy cell division and development. Extra virgin olive oil adds another source of heart healthy monounsaturated fats and antioxidant compounds, while corn, red onion, and lime add fibre, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
Together, these tacos are a great example of how fertility supportive eating doesn't have to mean complicated recipes or restrictive food rules. It's about building satisfying meals with a variety of nutrient dense whole foods that nourish your body while still tasting absolutely delicious.
Ingredients
1 ear Corn On The Cob (large, husks removed)
283 grams Top Sirloin Steak
1 tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Sea Salt & Black Pepper (to taste)
4 Corn Tortilla (small, warmed)
1 Avocado (medium, diced)
1/3 cup Red Onion (diced)
1 Lime (medium)
2 tbsps Hot Sauce (optional)
Directions
Preheat the grill to medium heat. Place the corn on the grill and cook for 15 to 20 minutes, turning occasionally, until lightly charred.
While the corn is cooking, add the steak to a bowl. Drizzle the oil over the steak, and season with salt and pepper.
Grill the steaks for four to six minutes per side until your desired doneness. Let the steaks rest for a few minutes, then chop into bite-sized pieces.
Turn off the grill. Place the tortillas on the grill to warm.
To assemble, cut the corn off the cob. Evenly divide the corn, steak, avocado, onion, lime juice, and hot sauce onto the warmed tortillas. Serve and enjoy!
Bloom Tip
Add extra avocado. It’s an easy way to boost this meal with folate and healthy monounsaturated fats that support reproductive health.
